MIB3, Prometheus, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Springfield restaurants.

Well I am long over due updating this, staying really busy as usual lately. So since my last update I have.....
I watched the movies Men In Black III and Prometheus. Of the two I liked Men In Black 3 better, but both were really good. I thought MIB3 had a better story than the previous two. The movie is a lot more Will Smith than it is Tommy Lee Jones. I think it might be Jones last MIB, he's really getting up there in age for this type of movie.
Prometheus was good, it felt a little rushed and losely strung together. I knew it had aliens in it, I just didn't realize it was part of the Alien series until I was watching it. They tried to put to much into to little time so there are some major holes in the movie. There are some big things that happen and you don't really know why and some of the characters they really needed to spend more time developing.
I've tried several new restaurants lately...... First Cartoon's Oyster Bar & Grill in Springfield. The exterior of the building could use a little remodeling. That being said I do believe new owners have just taken over so they may have no had time to work on that yet. The inside is dimly lit and I would consider it 70% bar, 30% restaurant. The food is excellent and the staff is very friendly, I would say it's a nice place to go with friends and hang out.
Also I tried Casablanca in downtown Springfield and was impressed. The interior is decorated with old movie posters and has a nice atmosphere. They have a variety on the menu and very good prices! I was impressed to see a 7" cheese pizza on the menu for $2.99! I plan on going back and trying it sometime, but on this visit I had a hamburger with bacon on it. It was one of the best hamburgers I've ever had and the weren't stingy with the bacon. Instead of putting strips of bacon on it, they diced it up first.
The last new restaurant I've tried lately was The Mudhouse in Springfield. I don't like coffee, but they have some excellent smoothies. It's more of a coffe shop, so don't expect a lot of food on the menu. It's more a place to hang out in the atmosphere have a coffee or smoothie and a snack.
Friday night I went to a Grace Potter & The Nocturnals concert at the Gilloiz. I wasn't a big fan of the opening band. I'm not sure why they hired a depressing mellow country music band to open for a rock concert. All of their songs were so slow and about bad stuff happening. I was so glad when Grace Potter finally came on stage, it was the total opposite. She is an excellent performer and it was probably the highest energy concert I've ever seen. The way she danced around on stage she must have drank 10 Red Bulls before going on.
Yesterday was a big event day here in Lebanon. First I photographed the Route 66 Parade to celebrate the completion of road work on the Elm Street part of Route 66. It was a huge flop! I set up to take pictures at the Cowan Civic Center. It should have been the busiest section along the parade route since the parade was supposed to stop there, they were going to have a ribbon cutting ceremony and a military band play. Only a handful of people turned out and it was really pretty sad. The parade had a lot of classic cars in it, but they were pretty much the same ones I've photographed before that go to every local classic car show. The military band they had playing was pretty awesome, they played several songs I knew like stuff by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and other more recent things.
After the parade I went to the zombie walk on Commercial Street which was pretty good this year. They had a lot of people dress up and they did a really good job on the costumes. I think there were more people dressed up in the parade as there were those who came out to watch.
After the parade I went to the "Our Town Your Town" festival at the airport. I know, what a sucky name right? The name didn't suck as much as it did though! Well Lebanon did an excellent job of promoting it on the event website with a whole sentence. The CPR class at least got a paragraph. This festival was supposed to be the replacement for Hillbilly Days and the God and Country Festival. Not sure why everyone includes the annual God and Country festival in this since they only had it one time several years ago, not sure what is so annual about that.
They were going to have hot air balloon rides, but that got canceled because of the wind. They had a few classic cars, but most of those I had already taken pictures of earlier in the day at the parade. They had a few food vendors and I was really wanting a funnel cake. The only food vendor that had funnel cakes was the one getting all the business and it's line was five times as long as the others. They had a stage with live Christian music, a dunk tank two kids were running and three inflateble bounce houses (which they charged the kids to go in). They were supposed to have a hot air balloon, but it was to windy and that got canceled. There were really no vendors, maybe two or three I saw. The rest were politicians campaigning or religious organizations trying to real you in. I'm not saying I have a problem with them being there, I'm saying that was pretty much ALL that was there. I would have liked to have seen some crafters selling their stuff, more local small businesses set up.
I'm sure there are a lot of local bands that would have played for free, they could have called the military to bring in their stuff for the kids to have some FREE stuff to do. They had a decent fire work show at the end, but over all they really could have done so much better with it.
