Busy Week

This week I've been all over the place! On Monday I took my mother and step-dad Chuck to Dogwood Canyon Nature Park. My mom has trouble walking so we took the tram tour around the park. Because it was the tram tour I wasn't able to gas many or as good of pictures as normal, but I still took a lot by most people's standards. Besides I've already been there twice before so I've pretty much had photographed everything there already anyway.
We were pretty hungry when we got there so we ordered from the little snack window they had there. It is pretty expensive! Chuck ordered an elk burger which he loved and both my mom and I each got a bison burger. My mom had never tried bison before. I had tried it once before at The Cave Restaurant in Richland Missouri. When I ate it at The Cave Restaurant I liked it there. I just don't think it was a good burger, Chuck tried a bite of my mom's burger and didn't like it either. He's not picky so if he didn't like it that says something! After paying $13 for it (all they give for a side was just a bag of chips) I was really disappointed and still hungry.
There was some construction going on at the front of the park where they are building a whole new visitor center/gift shop/restaurant area. It was supposed to be finished this year, but it's not looking like it will open until 2015.
We had a lot of fun at Dogwood Canyon, my mom and Chuck loved it! It's one of the most beautiful parks I've been to in Missouri and it has so many waterfalls, caves, and scenic beauty. It's a great place to go visit, I'd just stay away from that bison burger.
On our way home we stopped in Branson and ate at Burger Shack. I have to take the blame for this one as it was my idea to stop and eat here. I wanted to try something different and unique, but it was pretty disappointing. The outside and inside of the building has some cool decor and the dining area and restrooms were clean. We all ordered combo meals and didn't realize the price of the combo meals were just for the soda and fries and the hamburger was separate. Just about anywhere else you go a combo meal is one price and we thought we were paying a little more for having a drink and fries included. Instead we ended up paying a little over double what we were expecting to be charged. The fries weren't that great and the burgers were good but over priced. I've had the same size burgers other places for a lot less money and would have been just as satisfied with one from Burger King for 1/4 of the price or more satisfied by one from Culver's and still paid less.
Over all it was a really fun day, but we just couldn't seem to win when it came to food.
Tuesday I took my parents to the Nathan Boone State Historic Site in Ash Grove, Missouri. I have been there once before, but they hadn't. They really enjoyed it and I got some more pictures of the place. Afterwards we went to Downstream Casino and we went back again on Thursday. I ended up making about $100 for the week and my parents either broke even or made a little bit I'm not sure. More than anything we go for the $6.95 lunch buffet and to have fun, we don't expect to win anything.
When we took the tram tour at Dogwood Canyon the driver recognized me from my photography. Today I found out one of my photos is going to be on the new Springfield Yellowbook phone book.
