In Dallas, Texas
Sitting here in Dallas Texas taking a break from watching
Long Way Round. It’s a documentary Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman made
several years ago in which they set off on motorcycles to travel around the
world.
I don’t own very many dvds, my phone plan doesn’t give me
enough data to watch movies and when you’re traveling it’s not easy to find a
wi-fi connection. I’ve learned when you do find a wi-fi connection they usually
aren’t very reliable. They tend to be slow and drop your connection a lot which
makes them ok for checking email, the news or light web surfing, but not that
great if you are trying to watch a movie or videos.
A lack of an internet connection while on the road is the
main reason I haven’t been updating my blog to much since I started traveling.
I finally got Word on my laptop so I can write my blogs on it and then upload
them when I get home or find a decent wifi connection.
It’s extremely hot right now in Dallas, my phone says 93F. I
caught part of the news on tv earlier today when it was hotter and they said it
felt like 104F. Last week I was up in Minnesota and it was in the 60s, that was
great! Even if it was a little rainy, I’d prefer that over this hot weather!
Started my Christmas shopping today, bought my niece a gift
on Amazon. About all I do on my phone is check email, check Amazon and
Facebook. I might occasionally upload a photo to Flickr and Facebook, but not
very many as that eats up a lot of data.
Last week was my nephews Birthday. I took him to see the new
Tarzan movie which was pretty good. I thought it would be better though. It was
one of those movies where they show the best parts in the preview and lead you
to think there is more to it than what there is. They could have cleaned the
movie up just a little and made it more kid friendly and it really wouldn’t
have had a huge impact on the film and brought in a much larger audience.
Also for my nephew’s birthday I got him a cool birthday gift
bag, a toy snake which was about a 12 inches long and supposed to grow 600%
when you put it in water, a package of rattle snake eggs and a car with an
astronaut cat on it. Those were more just gag gifts, his main gift was a
samurai sword themed to be a zombie killer. It had a biohazard emblem, green
zombie blood on the blade and just overall pretty cool looking. He couldn’t
believe I got him a sword, he said he would have been less surprised if I
bought him a car. Which I would have bought him a car, but there is that whole
being poor thing.
I’ve been to Dallas several times the last few weeks. I’m
not a fan of the traffic and there is lots of construction. I don’t like
driving in the cities, people drive like jerks. City life just isn’t for me!
