Take Me Out To The Ball Game

I spent the first half of the day hiking at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center in Springfield, Missouri. Almost right away I regreted going on a weekend. The place is so much more enjoyable during the weekdays, especially now that summer is over. It can get crowded on the weekends and being on the edge of Springfield a lot of the crowd is made up of "city slickers" which can be really annoying!
At the nature center the crowd is a different one than you would normally find at say a state park. It feels like you are more at a city park sometimes than a nature center. If you go on a Sunday you'll often time find people hiking in their church clothes, in shoes a serious outdoorsman would laugh at. I've seen women there on the trails before in heels! You'll find tons of people loudly talking on their cell phones as they go down the trails, tons of families with loud children that don't realize it's a nature center and not a playground.
I was filming some video there and someone's small child went off almost causing me to jump into the bushes thinking it was an air raid siren. Completely ruined the clip of video I was shooting and I'm sure scared all the wildlife in the area away for miles. Spending the whole day hiking other than an occasional bird or squirrel I didn't see much wildlife, which is why I strongly recommend avoiding the place on the weekends. Go during the weekdays when it is less of a public park and more of a nature center, you'll see a lot more wildlife and enjoy the place a lot more.
After the Nature Center I ate at Blair's All American Sport's Grill in Springfield. The food was excellent, the staff was really nice and friendly and it had a good atmosphere. It does have a pretty big bar inside so I wouldn't recommend it as a family restaurant and I don't recall seeing any families eating there. But for a place to hang out with your buddies or to go and watch a game, have a drink and a good bite to eat it's a nice place.
In the evening I went to a Springfield Cardinals baseball game. It was my first time going to a game at Hammon's Field in Springfield. They played a team from Corpus Christi, Texas called The Hooks. Unfortunately for Cardinals' fans like myself The Hooks won the game, but it was still fun to watch. The Cardinals wore different color jersey's for the game than they normally wear I believe it was to support cancer survivors.
