I'm falling behind on my posts, a lot has happened since my last one. Last week I went to the grand opening of The Photoshop in St. Robert. It is owned and operated by my good friend Christopher Brown-Floyd http://www.brownfloyd.com/ If you are in the Waynesville/St. Robert area and need some good studio photography done he is diffenetly the guy to see.
When I left the house early in the morning it was raining cats and dogs, which made for an interesting ride up there. I hung out with Chris for about an hour and then decided to head over to the Fort. I went to the John B. Maffey Museum, since I hadn't been in a couple years and it was still pouring rain.
I spent a couple hours in the museum and when I left the rain had stopped. I was walking around taking pictures of the tanks and other vehicles on display in front of the museum when my friend Jonathan and his girlfriend Christina were driving by and spotted me snapping shots.
Jonathan, Christina and I decided to check out a few things in the area. First we headed to Miller Cave and I was very impressed with it. Access to the cave is on a cliff over looking the Big Piney River. It's a short hike down to the cave from the road. Along the way there is a scenic overlook with a spectacular view of the area. You can explore a good deal of the cave because there are several large entrances providing light. There is a second large entrance in the side of the cliff to look out providing another amazing view of the area. I'm not sure how far back the cave goes, the back part of the cave had a lot of water in it. I wasn't dressed or prepared for caving so I didn't explore to deeply. There is another cave a few yards away called Sadies cave but it is sealed with a gate.
After leaving Miller Cave we then went to Stone Mill Spring. The parking lot was very small and not kept up very well. To get to the Spring/Park area you have to walk about 3/4 of a mile down a very well kept single lane road along the Big Piney River. The road had a barrier up and is only an authorized vehicle access road. We were eaten alive by mosquitos on the walk to the spring so it felt like it took forever to get there. Why they didn't make the parking lot closer is beyond me! Once we got there it was another shock of how nice the place was compared to how crappy the parking lot area was. Mowed grass, restrooms, park benches and picnic tables. A spring comparable to Bennett Springs and Ha Ha Tonka with a nice wooden bridge directly in front of it. The spring branch leading to the river was very very short, maybe only .25 of a mile. And unlike Bennett Springs when you go and can see trout all over in the water I didn't see a single fish anywhere. I read online that the park announced when they are going to release trout and on those dates it is elbow to elbow, then in a couple days it's fished out and no one hardly goes.
As we were leaving the park Christina saw a frog and reached down to try and grab it and didn't see a snake but I did. I called out snake and it about scared her to death how close she came to picking up the snake instead of the frog. I don't think it was a venomous one though, pretty sure it was just a Northern Water Snake.
After that we stopped by an old one room school house nearby which wasn't very impressive at all. That pretty much concludes that trip.
This week I went to Silver Dollar City during their World Festival. I had a whole lot of fun and took so many photos it actually overwhelmed the Flickr Uploader. I was pretty proud of that, I had never tried to upload so many photos before that the uploader couldn't handle it and told me to try less photos.
I didn't get to see all the shows they had though, so I'm going to try and go back this week or next week before the World Fest ends. Of the shows I did see were the The Italian Flag Throwers, The Mariachi Divas, Ecuador Manta and my favorite the Peruvian Yawar Chicchi Scissor Dancers. I enjoyed the Scissor Dancers so much I watched their show twice. My second favorite show was the Mariachi Divas.
I regreted not seeing The Russian Academic Band. I skipped their show because I had seen it two or three times before at previous World Fests and wanted to see shows I had not been to before. They had added a new singer to their show and she was stunning! I could have fallen in love I tell you! I noticed her in the crowd before she ever took the stage, black dress, red high heels and a big red belt and she had style! I saw her when I was watching the Italian Flag Throwers right behind the stage where the Russian Academic Band was playing. She took the stage and sang some of the best jazz I've heard. So I was blown away! I was debating about leaving where I was and trying to sneak over to get some shots of the performance. With the outfit she was wearing the photos would have been amazing! I diffenetly regret that now, I would have made the photos black and white and left the bright reds of the outfit.
