Hi Ho Silver Away!

Yesterday I spent most of the day in Springfield hiking, going to the zoo and movies. Started off the day with a little breakfast at McDonald's. I had my usual a sausage and biscuit and two hash browns. It's fast and it's on the value menu and it's about the only thing I like on the breakfast menu. I don't want to say it's cheap, because I can remember not to long ago when hash browns were two for a dollar and that was reasonable. I guess the only other thing I like on their breakfast menu is the pancakes, but I never get those. They are pretty much the same as the microwave pancakes you buy in the freezer section at the supermarket, but with the price jacked way up. I do love McDonald's hash browns, but the sausage and biscuits are just filling and sustenance.
Lets face it, I'm an extremely picky eater as it is. As someone who isn't big on breakfast food, it sucks that is all you can find in the mornings.
Started out hiking at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center and it was a beautiful morning. I was there probably an hour or two before I checked Facebook on my phone and saw Dickerson Park Zoo was having a get in free day. It was about 10 minutes before the zoo opened and I was halfway down the Long Trail, probably a good mile from my car. Being a free day I knew the zoo would be packed so I wanted to get there and quickly as possible. But I had a mile hike and the zoo is on the opposite side of Springfield.
I got to the zoo about 30-40 minutes after they opened and they were packed! I've never been to Dickerson Park Zoo when it was so busy. They were parking people over at the Fair Grounds next door. In a lot of places it was just elbow to elbow there were so many people. I stayed until it was time to go watch The Lone Ranger.
The last time I was at this theater it was Showplex, but it has recently been sold to Starplex. They kept the $5.00 Tuesdays to see any movie in 2D. But they no longer have the Tuesday special of a small drink and small popcorn for $5.00. I was counting on that for lunch, more on the drink than anything else. The drinks at the zoo are way overpriced, it is $2.50 now for a 20oz in he machines there. After leaving the zoo I had a couple swigs of very hot bottled water in my car. After about a minute of browsing the concession stand and the girl behind the counter thinking "is this guy ever going to make up his mind?" I broke down and paid $4.75 for a small sprite...... it was painful.
Starplex has been advertising on it's website they are getting new seats. Black leather recliners! In the lobby they have one on display with a sign saying "Coming soon!". So I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in to see The Lone Ranger the chairs had already arrived! They are a lot bigger than the normal theater seating and much more comfortable. Normally I'm squirming in my seat by the end of the movie, but these were nice! It took me a couple minutes to figure out how to put the foot rest up, it's a button on the inside of the arm rest. It's power adjustable like the seat in a car, fancy!
The Lone Ranger was pretty good, but it is pretty easy to see why it failed at the box office. Like I said it was good, but not nearly as good as I had hoped. It is a mash up of modern movie and old movie and where the two meet it is awkward. The story doesn't really flow, one of those cases where they try to put way to much in a movie and not enough time.
After the movie I went back to the zoo and by this time the crowd was about half the size it was before. Just after I arrived it started sprinkling rain and then turned into a heavy sprinkle for about 30 minutes. I took shelter under a tree at the petting zoo to protect my camera until it passed. A lot of the people left the zoo because of the rain, so after that it wasn't bad at all. I stayed until just before closing time, before heading home.
Went home and had spaghetti for supper and watched Jack The Giant Slayer. Jack The Giant Slayer was really good. They did good on the story and special effects, I really like that they gave each giant uniqueness. It's a good movie kids and adults can enjoy.
Today has been a pretty relaxed day. I ran a few errands and went out to eat at Mazzio's this morning with my mom.
I guess I shall wrap this up for the evening and shut my laptop off, roll over and attempt to get some sleep.
