St. Louis Trip
It's been a while, I've been lazy. Figured I would update this, it's storming outside and I'm just relaxing listening to the rain.
Friday I went to St. Louis with my friends Jonathan and Christina. We went to the St. Louis Zoo, National Bird Sanctuary, Ted Drewes Frozen Custard, Lumiere Sculpture Park, Lone Elk Park and a few other places.
Due to a string of unfortunate events I haven't been to the St. Louis Zoo since I was in a stroller. It seems like every time I would try to go something would happen.... construction, 2 hour traffic jam, etc. I would end up going to other places in St. Louis instead.
The zoo was extremely crowded, every where I went I felt like I was about to step on a little kid. Part of the zoo was closed for construction. One of those parts was the penguins and we were there on National Penguin Day and there were none because of the construction. Parking for the zoo sucks! The parking lots near the zoo are tiny and fill up quickly, we had to park blocks away and walk.
After the zoo we went to Ted Drewes Frozen Custard. It is a historic roadside attraction on Route 66 and extremely popular. I had a strawberry concrete there and it was pretty disappointing. The custard part of it was great, but the strawberries had issues. I'm not sure if they weren't ripe or what, but chewy, like they blended them up with the leaves still on top.

Lumiere Sculpture Park was really cool and the sculptures were huge! We had a lot of fun there and just as we were leaving a prom party was starting in the park.
The World Bird Sanctuary was really nice, almost all the birds were native birds to Missouri. Lots of Eagles, Hawks and Owls. It is free to go to!
After the bird sanctuary we went to Lone Elk Park which is right next door. It reminded me of Wild Animal Safari in Strafford with less animals. You drive through it and there is an elk herd in one part and a bison (buffalo) herd in another part. There are also whitetail deer, but I only saw a couple of them and as a Missourian they are a very common site. Elk however are just being reintroduced to Missouri and are mostly in the Southern Part of the state in small areas. Bison you just see on a handful of farms in the state, zoos and a few preserves here and there. If you plan on going just a heads up motorcycles are not allowed and you cannot bring any pets into the park (even if they don't leave the vehicle). It is free to go to!
We stopped at Route 66 State Park to get a few pictures even though the museum / visitor center was closed. And ate dinner at Pizza Hut on the way home.
