It has been a while!

Almost two months since I've wrote in my blog and I feel kind of bad about it. It has been a busy two months! I've kept my Flickr page updated almost daily so even though I've been neglecting writing here everyone should have been able to keep up with all my adventures. After all they do say a picture is worth a thousand words!
The last week I debated about starting a photography blog. I decided though just to incorporate it into this blog though since this is about my life and photography is such a big part of my life.
Today my thought on photography is I want to get back to my roots. I started out as an outdoor and wildlife photographer, I went out of my way to keep people out of my photos. Lately I've just been very diverse in my portfolio and taking on new challenges. It seems like I've been photographing everything but nature.
I'm also ready to get away from low light and fast motion! I just spent three days this week photographing an indoor roller derby tournament and two nights photographing an outdoor rodeo at night under stadium lights. Both sports in a low light environment with extremely fast action. To capture the action without motion blur you have to have a fast shutter speed, faster shutter speed means a higher ISO and you are already shooting in a low light environment. A higher ISO means more digital noise in the pictures and the digital noise has been getting on my nerves.
In addition to digital noise getting on my nerves, people's kids have been as well. On the 4th of July we went to the Independence Day Parade in Marshfield, Missouri. I went with my mom, step-dad and nephew. We got their early to get a good spot for the parade and set up our chairs. Some guy with this three kids came along at the last minute and he let his kids get right in front of us. They were in my way a little bit so I stood up to take pictures and since I was standing there really wasn't enough room to get in front of me. They still managed to get on my nerves! I thought about saying something to them, but figured if I did my mom wouldn't want me too. I didn't know how much they were bothering everyone else though until after the parade. I guess my mom, Chuck and Elijah couldn't see the parade at all because the kids got right in front of them. Some of the people in the parade were giving out popsicles and they got them all over mom and Chuck. If I had known I would have said something to them and their parents!
That night we went to the rodeo in Marshfield and the same thing happened! My mom, Chuck, my nephew Elijah and niece Aurora went to the rodeo. I was about 10 feet away from where they were sitting standing in front of a gate so I could take pictures without blocking anyone's view. People would go in and out of the arena through the gate so no one could sit there. People let their kids get in front of them and climb up on the arena fence and stand there the whole time. So they couldn't see any of the rodeo and just had to sit there starring at the backsides of the bratty little kids. Once I did see it going on and I texted my niece "can you see?" and she said no so I went over and told their parents "My mom is handicap and she can't stand up and she can't see the rodeo because the kids are blocking everyone's view." and the guy made them move. My niece said another lady was just letting her little girl scream at the top of her lungs into my nieces ear. But I guess right after that another group of kids came over and did the same thing. So it pretty much ruined my mom's 4th of July.  I've got no problem telling people to move! Now after they ruined the 4th of July for my mom it's not only if they are bothering me, if I'm out and I see it I'll stand up for other people if I notice.
I remember a few years ago I went to a parade in Springfield. I got there about an hour early to get a good spot so I could take pictures and another lady with her kids showed up about the same time I did and got beside me. About five minutes before the parade starts this lady comes along with about six kids and gets right in front of us. There is no room, we are as far forward as you can get and she's pretty much in the path of the parade. Myself and the lady beside me are like OH HELL NO!!!! And we both are like look we've been here for an hour to get these seats you aren't going to show up at the last minute and get right in front of us. It's so last minute the guys coming along telling people to move back because they are to close and we're like we aren't moving, you need to leave and find somewhere else!
We went back to the rodeo tonight and there were a lot less people tonight and my parents actually got to see it! I figured the crowd on the 4th was so much larger because of the fireworks.
It's almost 4:00 a.m., I stayed up late to edit and post some photos from the parade and rodeo on Flickr. Stayed up even later to write on this thing. My eyes feel like the Sahara desert they are so dry and I think they are about half open so I'm going to wrap this up and call it a night. I'll try to write in here again sooner than two more months from now.
