An Epic Day

Only keeping my eyes open long enough to write this blog and then I'm calling it a night! I ended up staying up later than I should have working on photos and then headed out early this morning on some adventures.
My first stop was at the 2013 Case Knife Celebration in my hometown of Lebanon. There was a pretty good turnout and I got some good photos. Met  Alex Rutledge and JR "Hillbilly" Lanham from the show Bloodline Outdoors TV on the Pursuit Channel. They were really cool guys and we talked for a bit and traded cards, one of them said he had heard of me. Awesome! I took a few pictures for them at their booth as they signed autographs. I also got pictures of Matt Hughes 9 time UFC Champion and Clyde and Elsie Frost parents of Lane Frost a World Champion Bull Rider (they made a movie about him called 8 Seconds).
After the Case Knife Celebration I headed towards Springfield for more events. As I was driving down I-44 I saw they were just opening the Bushmaster's Rockin Race Place in Strafford. I had been meaning to stop in there for a long time now, but always had someone with me or had to be some place on time. Today was as good a day as any to go and I'm sure glad I did! I met the owner and legendary drag racer George "Bushmaster" Schreiber and talked to him for quite a while. He said they had really been scaling back and closed the restaurant part inside. He said they had only been opening two days a week and I believe today was the last day they are going to be open for a while. He said everyone is going to the lakes, on float trips and that kind of stuff this time of year and he's shutting it down for a couple months while things are slow.
Bushmaster's Rockin Race Place had so much on the walls to look at and read it would take you a week to cover it all. Lots of racing memorabilia, a section dedicated to the Blue Angels, motorcycles, classic cars and trucks, old drag cars, etc. I recognized one of the cars the Little Coffin II from when I photographed it at the Branson Auto Museum (no longer open). Here are the pictures from Race Place I took today http://www.flickr.com/photos/dustinholmes/sets/72157635432494400/
I made another spontaneous stop in Strafford at the Route 66 Swap Meet. There was hardly any vendors or anyone there, but I think I may have been to early because it looked like some were still setting up. I didn't even bother getting out of the Jeep, just snapped a quick picture of the sign and then headed on to Springfield.
The first stop in Springfield was the Outdoor Festival at Lake Springfield. I didn't think there would be very much there and I'd be lucky to get a couple pictures, but it turned out to be much more than I expected! They had a lot of vendors, craftsman and mountain men there.
I was walking along and I heard someone say "hey nice shirt!". I was wearing my usual, a North Face t-shirt. I looked up and it was a representative at a North Face booth. I talked to him for a bit and ended up getting a free stainless steel North Face cup. I've been wearing North Face faithfully since I was about 16 years old.
The Outdoor festival was a blast, I met a lot of really cool people and took some good photos. I attempted to go to the Oktoberfest at Mothers Brewery, but couldn't find a single parking place closer than three blocks away. I don't really drink, I was just hoping to get a few pictures of the crowd and maybe a few of people in Oktoberfest costumes. If I didn't have other places to go I would have walked, especially because as I was driving around looking for a parking place I saw so many pretty girls with no guys on their arms going.
After abandoning Oktoberfest I headed to the Greek Festival. There was not a whole lot there to photograph. It was more about food than anything else and they had bouncy houses for the kids. They had a booth where people could dress up in a toga and pose against a back drop. There was also a little bit of dancing, but dancing is almost impossible to photograph. The beauty of movement doesn't transfer to well to a still image. The Tango, Lindy Hop, or something like that you can work with, but for the most part most dancing just looks like a human frozen in a really awkward contorted position. Pictures of the Greek Festival are here http://www.flickr.com/photos/dustinholmes/sets/72157635431791048/
Next stop on the list was the Japanese Fall Festival at the Japanese Stroll Gardens. They had several different things going on I wanted to stay for and photograph. So I decided to skip the Blues Festival and just stay the rest of the evening there. (The Blues Festival would cost $30 to get in and by this point in the evening there would be only one or two bands left to play before it was over)
I met a lot of really awesome people there and took a whole slew of photos which I will try to get on here as soon as possible. I still have a lot of photos from previous trips to upload, maybe one of these days I will get caught up.
