New Year and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

I didn't really think about it being the last day of 2013 when I got up this morning. I shaved the beard I had been growing for several days. (I think it about killed my Mach 3 razor blade and those things aren't cheap!) Took a shower, uploaded a few pictures to Flickr and then headed to Springfield.
I went to Starplex Cinemas and watched The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. When I pulled in the parking lot was pretty full for a Tuesday morning. It is New Years Eve so a lot of people are off work and school, so not surprising either. There was a line at the ticket window and the lady who was in line ahead of me wanted to see The Hobbit. She was told the first showing had sold out, I was surprised since the movie has been out a while now.
After hearing the news about The Hobbit when I walked in at about 10 minutes until Walter Mitty started I expected to see a lot of people. I was surprised to find myself alone in an empty theater. But by the time the previews had finished about 10 other people had showed up.
I had only half paid attention to the trailer on tv and expected Walter Mitty to be leading a double life as a secret agent. It turns out his double life was just him going catatonic into ridiculous day dreams. About 20 minutes in I was feeling like I was going to be really disappointed in the movie! But it got better and I ended up loving it!
I could relate to the movie in so many ways and it inspired me a little. At this moment in my life, it was just what I needed to see. It's hard to explain without giving spoilers, so I'll do my best. I could relate to the dating web-site thing in the movie. Like Mitty I'm a day dreamer, but at least when I day dream I don't go catatonic! The rut I've fallen into reminded felt like I was where Walter Mitty was and the guy he was trying to find is the same guy I'm trying to find again. It made me get the travel bug again and made me want to get out more with my camera,
After the movie I ate lunch at Fuddruckers. I have been wanting to try them for a while and since I was by myself today I did! I had the fries which were like potato wedges and thought I would splurge and order the biggest burger they had, 2/3 pound. I was really hungry and managed to eat it all except for a couple of bites. The interior was really neat, lots of flair all over the place. One corner booth was themed for The Beatles, another for Elvis, there was a large airplane hanging upside down from the ceiling painted up like the Red Baron's, the whole place was full of a lot of interesting things like that.
After eating I debated about going back to the movies and seeing The Wolf of Wall Street, but instead decided to go to the park. I drove by Sequiota Park, but it was a bunch of little kids. So I drove to Sam's Club on Campbell and got gas and then headed to Close Memorial Park.
At Close they were doing construction beside Lake Drummond where the tunnel going under the road is. They had drained half the water in the lake leaving one end mud and the other end still had water in it but the level was really low.
I walked a lap around the lake and I noticed everyone was in coats and bundled up. Here I was just walking around in a t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans and I was fine! It was cool, but not enough to bother me at all. I like the cold, I would much rather it be cold like this than boiling hot.
On my way home I stopped by Bass Pro. Didn't buy anything there, just walked around window shopping.
On the drive home I noticed a beautiful sunset and stopped in Conway to take a few pictures. I didn't even occur to me until after I got home it was the last sunset of 2013. It made me a little more excited I had captured it.
I had really need to get out of the house, watching the movie, taking some pictures.... by the time I got home I was bouncing off the walls. I edited all the pictures I took today and uploaded them to Flickr. It's time to get out of this rut once and for all and get the old adventurer Dustin back in 2014.
