The One Thing Constant In The Universe....

Change....  After so many years on Flickr, I'm just about ready to call it quits after the redesign.
Prior to the redesign I noticed the site was becoming a storage warehouse for iPhones and Instagram. Users began setting up accounts and then uploading to them from external sources. I think a lot of photographers begin abandoning the site, because it became about 50% real users and 50% robot uploads. But at least you controlled your own Flickr space and could do your own thing.
Then came the redesign....... I guess no one ever told them "Less is more". I think they were trying to make it look more like Windows 8, or trying to dazzle us with fancy programming scripts.... LOOK WHAT WE CAN DO!  But now it's just gaudy and tacky. If they were going for an elegant diamond necklace they ended up with the clock around Flavor Flav's neck.
The site is so much slower now, both to load photos and navigate through. Before the redesign you could scan your eyes over hundreds of photos in a few seconds looking for ones you liked. After the redesign you only get a handful of images at a time and if you want more you have to scroll down and wait for them to load.
All their fancy scripts wreck havoc with browsers! I've given up on the site numerous occasions because of bugs, load speed or the site just not even being half functional because it didn't like the browser I was using on that particular day.
The social network of Flickr had dried up. No longer can you easily interact with your contacts seeing the comments on your photos, who added you as a contact or who made one of your photos a favorite. Before the redesign you could see all this on the home screen, now you have to go to each individual photo, or in the case of new contacts jump through a few hoops.
You could also browse photos from a dozen or so contacts at a time on your home page, now it's three at a time. Really one at a time because they make them so large only one shows up on your screen and to see the other two you have to scroll down. With the images appearing so big, now gone is the incentive you have to click on the tiny thumbnail image to see it larger.
I really miss the ability to have a title and description seen below each photo without having to scroll the mouse over it or click on it. Also the page view counter is gone, you have to go to the stats section now.
Since the redesign my views have taken a nose dive off a cliff. I recently posted some photos online they only received a tiny fraction of the hits they would have before the redesign. I even promoted one of them in groups and it hardly got anything, which tells me the groups are also being abandoned.
All the Pro users pretty much got screwed. They gave everyone free what we had been paying for, the only difference if any is perhaps we don't have ads on our pages. Other than telling us our account hasn't changed, we pretty much got the cold shoulder. No refunds, no special bonuses or perks.... just ripped off!
I will probably use Flickr some, perhaps when I have more time I can even find some usefulness for it. Where my photography goes from here though, has yet to be determined.
Sadly Flickr is no longer a social networking site for photographers, it's just a warehouse where photos go to die.
