Joplin Trip
It's been a long day and I'm tired! Currently 2:43 in the morning and as soon as I get this blog done I'm going to jump my bed.
I didn't sleep good last night. I went to bed early and slept for a few hours and then woke up shortly after midnight. I was wide awake and ended up working on some pictures to upload. Of course as soon as I started uploading them was when I got tired again, but I had to wait until they were finished. I only ended up getting a couple more hours sleep before my alarm went off.
I promised my mom I would take her gambling in Joplin today. Her health has not been good lately, so she is wanting to do things while she can. I have enjoyed spending the time with her now that I have some free time away from work. The whole time I worked at Cox I had no life, I just worked and slept. It was like I dropped off the face of the planet for a few months.
Our first stop was lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings in Springfield. I had my usual Jamaican Jerk and Desert Heat boneless wings (they have a special where they are only $.60 on Tuesdays). We filled up the gas tank at Sam's Club and swung by Academy Sports. Mom had a few things to exchange she bought last time which didn't fit. While we were waiting to pay they opened a box Remington Golden .22 bullets, the bulk packs of 555. Talk about lucky! I couldn't pass up getting a couple boxes. .22 is about the only thing around here that is still hard to find. Even though it is now a little more expensive after the shortage, it's still a lot more affordable to shoot than the big stuff.
I'm happy happy happy I can not only go to the range, but I don't have to stress as much counting rounds. I can't even remember the last time I was at the range, but it must have been last year before December.
After Academy we headed on to Joplin and went to Downstream Casino. I was a high roller with a whole $20 and my mom $40. Neither one of us know anything about cards, so we stuck to the slot machines. We really don't know anything about slot machines either, we just push random buttons and hope we win something.
We both walked out of the casino with more money than we went in with, but only because I was in charge of the money. First thing we got 60 one dollar bills which I kept in my pocket and we mostly played the $.01 machines, occasionally the nickel machines. We tried the dollar machines a couple times, but had no luck with those. I gambled a little, but pretty much let my mom have most of the fun because she was really enjoying it. I kept cashing in the winning ticket stubs and the profit would go in my left pocket. Occasionally we would gamble some of the winnings, if we played $1 and won $5 I would keep $2-3 dollars to make sure we stayed profitable and gamble the rest. We won't be buying a beach house in Florida, but at least our winnings helped cover some of the gas and food on our trip.
We had completely lost track of time in the casino we were having so much fun and it was after 5 o'clock when we left. I showed my mom Grand Falls and snapped a few pictures there. She wasn't able to walk down to them because there are several rock ledges you have to climb down 2-3 feet, but you can see them easily from the parking lot. I scampered around the rocks for a few minutes taking pictures and met some pretty girls in bikini's a little ways down the river who offered me a beer, which sadly I had to decline, because my mom was waiting for me in the car around the bend and I was driving.
It isn't that I don't drink, I drink occasionally, but it is really not my thing. Proud to say I have never been drunk, on the rare occasion though I will have a drink. Other other circumstances then today's a pretty girl in a bikini offering me a beer is one of those times I will have a drink. lol
We were hungry again after we left Grand Falls and I had planned on picking up a couple pizzas in Joplin to munch on tonight and tomorrow. I found a place online called Cheesie's Pizza I thought we would try since we don't have one in Lebanon or Springfield. Their website said they had a large cheese pizzas for $4.99 and large 2-topping pizzas for $7.99, affordable.
On the way to Cheesie's Pizza we passed the Academy Sports in Joplin and decided to check it out since the only Academy we have ever been to is the one in Springfield. It was about the same, but my mom found a couple t-shirts and a pair of shorts on sale for my step-dad.
We left Academy Sports and proceeded to find Cheesie's Pizza. I had wrote down the copied down the address wrong so my GPS ended up taking us to the middle of a residential neighborhood. I had also wrote down the phone number though so I called them to get the right address. I pulled over and gave them a call and a guy answered and asked if I could hold, I politely said yes. After spending about 10 minutes on hold I figured they had forgotten about me so I hung up and called back. The same guy answered, picked up the phone, told me to hold and without even giving me time to say one word put me back on hold. I should have noticed some of their reviews weren't the best online, now they are a little worse. ;)
At this point I of course was done and had no further desire to deal with this place so we went to Popeye's Chicken. It was excellent and they had some of the nicest people working there. It was extremely busy when we went, I think it may have just opened for business not to long ago because it looks really new. I tried the new Chicken and Waffles flavored chicken tenders they have been advertising on tv lately. It was my first Chicken and Waffle experience, but I really liked it. Sometimes I use BBQ dipping sauce, most of the time I don't use a dipping sauce, but when I tried the Honey Maple dipping sauce it came with I really liked it. It's about like it sounds, tastes like honey and maple syrup, it's pretty sweet. I also had an apple pie, which was the best apple pie I had ever had.
Stopped at Braum's on our way home to get an ice cream, I had Sicilian Orange which is really a sherbet and not an ice cream. I don't think the Braum's in Springfield have that flavor and it's been a long time since I had one.
Of course we didn't eat all that food, I ended up taking half my Popeye's Chicken home and eating it later.
Laptop battery is about dead and that about sums it up anyway. I'm getting off here to catch some ZZzzzz's.
