Sunday Night Blog Update

About a week ago I took a road trip up to Kansas City with my friends Jonathan and Christina. We went to the Zoo, Art Museum and a couple other places up there.
I hadn't been to Kansas City since I was a little kid. Living on I-44 if I was going to make a trip to the big city it would usually be St. Louis. I like Kansas City though, I of course could spend a lot of time up there photographing everything. Kansas City seems a lot more spread out than St. Louis, which is something I like.
I'm still working on getting all the pictures uploaded to Flickr from the trips. I still have a lot from St. Louis to upload! I'm spreading things out, mixing it up so my photo stream is more diverse and spending more time editing each photo instead of just uploading unedited photos. Editing the photos obviously takes a lot more time!
It is really paying off though because traffic has skyrocketed! Today I broke a new one day record with over 13,000 views and my old record was just a hair below 10,000.
After I got back from Kansas City I ended up getting sick and that took me out of action for a few days. Not until the last couple days did I start feeling like I was completely over it.
With so much rain in the weather I picked a good time to be sick, because I didn't miss much. It feels more like Spring than summer with all the rain and thunderstorms we've had lately. What I have done lately has been smaller things like go out and eat with the family, drove down to Waynesville to take pictures of the flooding and checked out the new Firearms museum at Bass Pro.
Speaking of which, I took a lot of photographs in the Firearms Museum before I realized they aren't camera friendly there. Oops! They didn't say anything surprisingly, but they have about three or four people walking around in there keeping an eye on things. Eh, I'll just have to tack on a disclaimer or something, not like I was planning on selling them or anything. I mostly just like sharing my stuff with people for everyone to enjoy. So many people use my photos to get travel ideas or check out a place to see if it is worth the trip, or live in other countries and it is the only way they can experience a place. I do the same thing, I travel vicariously through my friends photos and I often look at pictures of a place I plan on going to before I make a trip.
I think this is what has made me such a huge success as a photographer! It isn't that I take unbelievably amazing pictures 100% of the time. It's not Photographer Dustin Holmes, it's Adventurer Dustin Holmes. I talked about how I'm doing some things different with my Flickr, but this won't change. I'm just growing, mixing the artistic side of photography in with the same old thing so it appeals to a wider audience.
Unfortunately I won't be able to spend as much time working on Flickr as I have the last couple weeks. Most of the time hasn't been editing or uploading photos. The vast majority of the time I have spent on it lately has been heavily promoting it and building an audience. I'm not going to be putting as many hours into it as I have been. I'm there, I've done it, I've gotten well over 3.5 million views which is amazing! It's time for another challenge now.
