Interesting Day!
It's been a very interesting day! I was pretty back and forth between going to St. Louis for the hot air balloons or going to the car show in Springfield. I ended up going to Springfield though, because it was the cheaper option.
I stopped by Hardee's for breakfast and got a sausage & biscuit and a medium order of hash rounds. Has rounds are similar to McDonald's hash browns, but are about the size of a quarter.
My first stop in Springfield was the car show and I got there right after they opened. I later met up with my bestfriend Jonathan there for a while, but stayed longer than he did. I figure I took pictures of 95% of the cars there. Plus I got a few shots of some of the performers, Darth Vader who was walking around with some storm troopers and a picture of an Ewok driving a very tiny automobile.
There were a lot of cars there, but the show was pretty unorganized. I would guess probably around two hundred cars. I figure I photographed about 95% of them, but they kept coming and going constantly. Thirty minutes after the gates opened cars on display were leaving and two hours after it started cars were still showing up.
At the entrance they had a sign which said absolutely no pets allowed, but I saw multiple people walking around with pets.
I saw a lot of people sneaking in without paying as well. It's not like it was super hard to do they had a huge perimeter with a piece of yellow caution tape up for a fence, you just had to duck right under it and you were in. I'm sure some people just had their heads shoved firmly up their backsides too far to realize what yellow caution tape meant and perhaps there was an "entrance" they should use. Or that big car shows cost money and just because little car shows at the local drive in are free, doesn't mean they all are. There were signs at the entrance and admission was posted on their Facebook page and website. I'm sure some people didn't realize it and some were just scumbags who didn't want to pay $5 so they decided to sneak in. It was more of an honor system, the money was being raised for charity. I knew about the admission so I of course paid and if I didn't want to spend $5 to get in, I wouldn't have gone. I got a green squishy car, like a stress ball you squeeze, but instead of round it was in the shape of a car. I gave that to my step dad when I got home and told him I brought him home one of the cars from the show. He just got in from his two weeks on the road a few hours before I got home. I also got a tire air pressure gauge which I tossed in my center console. I think I already had one of those in there, but two wouldn't hurt.
They had some really cool cars there, everything from 2014 Mustangs to old rat rods. They had the tow truck Mater from Cars is based on. Not sure if it was just the same model or they drove the actual one that sits on Route 66 in Kansas down for the show. Then of course you had some cars like why are these in the car show? If your car isn't worth over $2,000 or is a stock 1996 Pontiac Grand Am why is it there taking up space? I wouldn't even mind if it was a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am as long as it wasn't run of the mill and had a really cool paint job or something.
After the car show I went to Sam's and filled up the gas tank. Decided to take the scenic route and drive through Springfield on my way home and take Campbell to Sunshine and then Glenstone to I-44. About a block from I-44 I decided the weather was just to perfect to head home so soon. I figured I would head to Nathaniel Park and walk around once and take a couple pictures at least before heading home.
After a stop at the McDonald's by Bass Pro to get a drink I got to the park and started walking around. Nothing special, getting some pictures, but nothing to write home about. Then I found a tiny little praying manthis on a flower and took some really great pictures of him. I walk back towards the Japanese Stroll Garden and see a bunch of tents set up and Irish folk dancers at the Gray Campbell Farmstead. Turned out they were having a festival and I just stumbled upon it!
They had a lot of really interesting things! I got to go in the buildings, which I had never been in before. Took pictures of the dancers and people wearing period costumes. They were doing laundry with lye soap and wash boards, making apple cider on a wooden press, making apple butter over a campfire the old fashioned way, roasting peanuts over a campfire, and similar things. Spent a few hours there and proceeded back to my vehicle way on the other side of the park.
On my way back I spotted a huge american flag kite flying and I couldn't pass the opportunity up to photograph it. As I'm taking a few pictures of it the guy who had that one also had a huge stunt kite he started flying. It was like six or seven smaller different colored kites hooked together in a line with really long streamers attached. A couple dozen kids started playing under neath them trying to catch the streamers as he would dive it down over their heads to tease them. So as exhausted as I was, I just couldn't pass up gigantic kites and spent about another hour photographing them.
About 45 minutes after I got home I found out they were having tractor pulls here in Lebanon at the Civic Center. IT was tempting, but I am just to worn out! I got a little bit of a sunburn today, slight headache. I went to bed really early last night and woke up at 2:00 a.m. so I've been up since them. Backs been bugging me all day and I'm losing my voice for some reason. I need a good rest tonight to recharge the old batteries.
I watched the movie At War the other night. It was about two CIA super agents who fall in love with the same girl. I would say it was just barely good enough to be called decent. I would give it about 3 out of 5 stars.
Then I watched part of Seeking A Friend For The End of The World, which I thought was stupid and couldn't really get into so I gave up on it.
Watched a classic comedy from way back in the day called King Ralph. I had watched it once before a long time ago, long enough I couldn't hardly remember it, so probably when I was a kid. It stars John Goodman a down on his luck Las Vegas performer who becomes the King Of England after the whole Royal Family die in an accident. I would give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Also watched one of my old favorites On The Line a romantic comedy about a guy who meets a girl on the train in Chicago and they hit it off, but he always chokes and didn't ask for her number. So he starts putting up signs all over the city to find her for a second chance to do it right.
