Exploring Pulaski County
Yesterday I spent the day in Pulaski County crossing a few more places off the list. My first destination was The Crocker Railroad Depot and Crocker Caboose in Crocker, Missouri. This took me through Richland, Missouri where I filled up the gas tank and filled up my tank at The Burger Shack.
If you are ever in Richland and the Burger Shack is open stop and get some food!!!! A good rule when you are looking for a place to eat is are they busy? If they are that usually means they've got good food and good prices and The Burger Shack is one of those places! You walk inside and find yourself standing in a narrow hallway with a window to order and a window to pickup your food. The walls are covered with a chalkboard like material to about waste high and an old box of chalk is sitting near by for kids. You're standing there waiting for your food and just about every other minute someone else comes in to place an order. But it's not the same as standing there waiting in line at your standard fast food chain, somethings different..... you notice the employees know everyone's name, they all seem to be old friends, "hey check out this funny video on Youtube!". It's little roadside places like this, locally owned with strong roots in the community that make America great. So if you're ever in the area be sure to stop in the food's great and prices aren't bad at all! If it's a beautiful day take advantage of one of their picnic tables under a shade tree out back.
I arrived in Crocker and photographed the caboose located at Norma Lea's Frisco Park. Several travel websites have the caboose and depot listed at the same address, but they are not. They are located on two different streets and have businesses between them. However they are within sight of each other and it's an easy walk at about half a block. There is parking at the Depot, but it's limited. I just stayed parked by the Caboose because it was a big open parking lot on the main street through town and almost right in front of the police department. Being such a small town I'm not terribly concerned, but most of the buildings in this area looked abandoned. Unfortunately both the caboose and depot are locked up so I couldn't see inside of them. It is possible to see inside during certain times of the year, but you have to call and schedule an appointment to do so. Let's be honest, that's more hassle than most people are going to deal with. So is it worth the trip? Not really, unless you are already in the area.
The next item on the list was the Majestic Auto Route 66 Museum in Waynesville, Missouri. It is located inside of a business Majestic Auto Body a collision repair shop. There really isn't anything on the outside that would let you know there is a museum inside. Sure there were a couple of classic cars parked out front that had been restored, but it's not that unusual to see those parked outside of an auto repair shop. The museum is really just the lobby of the business and it's not very big. They managed to fit a lot of stuff into a small area though! It's the owner's private collection and it's a nice one! It has some rare pieces of memorabilia I doubt you will see anywhere else, so it is worth a stop. The owner is such a nice guy too! He was pulling signs off the wall to show me, telling me all about the stuff, took me out to the garage area to show me the classic cars that are his pride and joy. This is one of the really great things about traveling on Route 66, you will meet tons of these people! They love the history, the love the visitors, they love to share it with you and they welcome you in like you were a member of their family.
Moving along to my next destination was the City of St. Robert Museum in the St. Robert Municipal Center. It's not going to be something for everyone and your kids will probably hate it. It's really targeted towards people who are interested in the history of the city. If you don't care and are not interested then it's not going to be your cup of tea. However if you are and want to check it out you will find everything from old signs, documents, pictures, and lots of local memorabilia. A lot of it has to do with the local government and a big section with law enforcement. Or maybe the law enforcement section just stood out to me most since I used to work in law enforcement. It was nice to see they take pride in their department.
I still had time to kill before the movie I wanted to watch started so I stopped by the Pulaski County Tourism Bureau and Visitor Center. I have a friend who works there and it's a really nice place to stop in if you need information on the local area or even the whole state. Even though this is what I do, even though I've been going to Pulaski County my whole life and it's like my backyard... you can always discover something new. Missouri is the most underappreciated states on tourism and things to do. Maybe you over looked a place, maybe a place just opened. Springfield is my second home town and I still find cool things down there I've never done before. The people at the visitor center are great! They love what they do, they love the area and they have pride in it, they're eager to snare it with you and help anyway they can. If you've got kids, you're on a budget, you want to find a place to eat off the beaten path, etc. They can help! I loaded up a whole shopping bag with magazines and brochures. Even though I knew a lot of the places I plan on going and wanted more information. Some of the bigger cities have magazines that are more in depth so you might find things that are off the beaten path.
This was my first time at the new B&B Waynesville Patriot 12 theater. Like most theaters it costs an arm and a leg! I had joined the rewards club a couple weeks ago at Lebanon's B&B and they emailed me saying for joining I received a free medium popcorn on my next visit. They let me upgrade the popcorn to a large for $1.00, a drink and one movie ticket came to almost $20.00! Unlike a lot of theaters this one has a bar and grill built in so there are more food options like burgers, but you still get theater prices. The movie I was seeing was in the special thing they have where you have to be over 21, it has reclining seats and reserved seating. When I bought my ticket they checked my I.D., showed me a little screen and you pick from the options they give you on where you want to sit. I guess how it works is if you want the middle or closer to the screen it costs more or maybe you can buy your tickets online pick where you want to sit and show up at the last minute. Either way I wasn't a really big fan of assigned seats. I headed towards the theater and when I entered the bar and grill area I had to show my I.D. and ticket again. It was a little awkward since I had a drink cup in one hand and my popcorn in the other. Good thing they had the bar there to sit the stuff on so I could dig in my pocket for the ticket and wallet for the I.D. Really the only thing about the experience I was impressed by was they have a self-serve drink machine right outside the theater door. It's nice because you don't have to wait in line for a refill or walk a long ways while the movie is playing. The powered reclining theater seats weren't anything special to me, I'm used to them because the theater I go to in Springfield has had them for a long time. The only real in them was these had a tray table attached. I found the tray tables more annoying than anything else! Mine hadn't been wiped down good and had bits of popcorn left on it. It seemed to make the cup holder several inches higher so while I'm sitting there my cup was right in the way of the screen so I had to move it to the side without the tray table so I could see the movie. When I got up to refill my drink and came back to sit down I put my hand on it where the cup holder part was and it made a loud pop like it locked into place which was really awkward. After the theater shootings and people being so sensitive about noise during the movie the last thing you want to do is come back sit down and make a loud awkward pop.
The movie I saw was John Wick Chapter 2. It was excellent!!! Loads of action! I almost want to say the first one was a little better, but this one was so good it's to close to call. No spoilers, but they did leave it open at the end for a Chapter 3.

ศัลยกรรมตาสองชั้น
ReplyDelete• 1.
