Sunday Funday
I ended up going to bed really early Saturday night so of course I woke up really early Sunday morning. Even though I was really tired as a result I didn't want to waste a beautiful day at home so I headed to some local places I had never been before.
The first stop I had been to before and it was Hidden Waters Nature Park in Marshfield, Missouri. It had been a little while since my last visit and there were a few improvements. They had dug out a small pond where there was a spring. The dirt around it looked freshly dug and I don't remember anything being there before. I took pictures and filmed some video. When I first got to the park I took pictures of the cabin and figured I would film it on the way back. As I was leaving the cabin I passed a girl walking and said good morning to her. I spent at least 45 minutes walking around the park taking pictures and getting more video. When I got back to the cabin she had camped out right in the center of the porch and it looked like she had no intention of leaving anytime soon. She smoked a couple cigarettes and even layed down for a while. I eventually just had to give up and leave and plan to get video later.
After leaving the mill my next stop was Wommack Mill in Fair Grove Missouri. On the drive there I noticed a place with all kinds of old antique farm machinery and thought that would be cool to stop at sometime and take pictures.
When I got to Fair Grove my GPS had me turn right when really I should have turned left. When it said I was at my destination I was about a block down the street with houses on one side and the school on the other. The name of the street had Mill in it, so I figured I must be close. I turned around and went back the other direction and sure enough there it was.
As I was walking around the mill taking pictures and shooting some video a man pulled up in a truck and we started talking. It was the guy who owned all the antique farm machinery I had seen earlier and he invited me to stop by and take pictures after I was finished there and told me about some old buildings in the park he thought I would like to take pictures of also.
My next stop was the park since it was just about a block away from the mill and it was worth it. There was an old cemetery with an old log cabin and all the graves were really old! The ones I could read died around the 1850s, but most were so worn there wasn't any writing left on them. Only a couple of them had new tombstones added by the old ones. One of the new ones was for the grave site of a famous person.
Right by the cemetery were several old buildings which I walked around. There was an old saw mill, one building had several old wagons and one had an old steam tractor which I loved seeing!
I then went and took pictures of the old antique farm machinery and then went to Valley Water Mill Park in Springfield where I had never been. It was a nice park, but there was some room for improvement! My biggest issue I had was that the trails weren't marked. It was pretty clear where the trails were, but there were no signs that said where they went, how far they went, etc. I took my chances and it basically ended up going all away around Valley Water Mill Pond. When you say pond I think most people picture something small, I called it a lake and I think most people would. There were several people fishing, but I didn't see anyone catch anything or any fish in the water so I guess they weren't biting today. They have two fishing piers, but they look like they would be a pain in the butt to fish from. They are covered and have posts holding the roof up so casting would certainly be a challenge.
After leaving the park I went out on the town for a while and saw a girl I've seen a couple times before.
On my way home I had just enough day light left to get the video I needed of the cabin at Hidden Waters Nature Park.
For dinner tonight I tried Slim Chickens which opened in Lebanon a few months ago. I was not impressed! I pulled in and at first I wasn't sure if they were open, but I saw one older couple eating inside and the lights were on. I went through the drive-thru and ordered. It was really expensive, almost $10 for a coke, fries, piece of toast, and five chicken tenders. You get your choice of two dipping sauces, I really just wanted one. I didn't really want a drink either, but the meal automatically comes with one. Paid at the drive-thru and they had me pull forward and wait. Not really sure why since the place was a ghost town and there were no other customers around. When I got my food it was pretty disappointing. The toast was really bland! The toast you get at Dairy Queen with their chicken tender basket has a lot more flavor. The fries did not taste fresh at all, so I'm assuming it was the chicken they were cooking fresh and I got some of the batch of fries they had pre-made for a while. The only thing that was really impressed me about the place is the building is kind of cool. The fence around the outdoor area is made to look like chicken wire and I thought that was a cool touch.
All I uploaded tonight were a handful of pictures from my phone and the pictures of the antique farm machinery. I'll probably work on putting the videos together tomorrow. The videos will be really short video clips, no talking or sound. I probably could have done one long video for the day, but I figured I would make short individual videos from each place.
