Halloween
I had a lot of fun decorating and trick or treating the other night. We didn't have a lot of trick or treaters, but I managed to get all the Halloween candy passed out.
It was windy so it was a hassle getting the styrofoam tombstones to stay up. I used tent stakes and was going to duct tape the tombstones to them, but the duct tape wouldn't stick. So I just had to use the tent stakes in the back and used sticks I found in the yard like stakes in the front to brace them upright. They blew over multiple times so I kept having to put them back up.
When it was almost time for trick or treaters it got really windy and pouring rain. Luckily it moved through quickly, but I think it kept a lot of people in for the rest of the evening. We didn't get as many trick or treaters as I thought we would. Started timing them and we would go 10-20 minutes without anyone coming up to the door. I was worried I might have a lot of candy left over so for a while I was giving out handfuls of candy. I will never forget the look on this one girls face when she came up to the door and I gave her two big handfuls of candy. Her eyes got so big and she goes "thanks!". Made my night!
One of the tombstones ended up having a skull who's eyes lit up red and flashed, but after about a minute one of the eyes quit working. Everyone's favorite was this plug in skull light I had on the porch, I had so many comments on it! It's a life size skull, gray, has a light on the inside which changes color and you pour water in it so smoke comes out the eyes and nose. Despite the wind it worked really well!
I ended up dressing up in a black cloak and had a sword on, so I was I guess I was some kind of fantasy game character. Halfway through the night though I ended up ditching the costume because it was hot, really humid from the rain and not many people were coming.
Today I had a serious lack of motivation. I watched a movie from the 80's called Mannequin. It was a very silly movie, but good. A wannabe artist builds a mannequin who he gets a crush on, an Egyptian woman travels through time and makes the mannequin come to life and romance and comedy ensues.
I then tried to watch Paranormal Activity 4 and made it about 3/4 of the way through the movie before I gave up. It was really drawn out and took forever just for a little something spooky to happen.
This morning Yellow one of the outside stray cats wasn't around. We have two "Ms. Kitty / Hello Kitty" and Yellow. Occasionally other strays come and go, but these two pretty much hang around our house all the time. Ms. Kitty is a young, very energetic, playful cat and she's very small. Yellow is a very large battle scared old tom cat with a broken tale.
After Yellow didn't show up this morning or afternoon I realized I've become rather fond of the old guy the last few days, we've become buddies. He didn't show up until a little after dark tonight. I opened the back door and I heard him meow from across the yard. He very slowly came walking up and drank about half a bowel of milk and I gave him a can of food and some treats. He belongs to someone because we've seen him with a collar on before and someone brushes him. He just likes us better because he spends more time at our house than he does away.
He loves treats, he meows his old gruff alley cat meow and purrs and eats the treats like a vacuum cleaner. He likes for me to scratch him on his head. Ms. Kitty is slowly coming around she'll get close to me and walk up to me now on occasion when I don't have food. She will let me pet her a little bit now, sometimes she'll playfully bat at my hand when I'm trying to pet her and she likes for me to pull a string around for her to attack. She isn't really impressed with treats, she only wants to eat them if I throw them to her on at a time. I think it is a hunting instinct, she's pretty wild. She won't touch can cat food either, just dry.
